The "Triple C's - Carbon Capturing Construction" team won second place with a prize of 3,000 EGP for the "Mechanical Tree" project under the "Smart Planning" track in the Smart Government Hackathon hosted by Benha University.

A "mechanical tree" is a device that sucks carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It's designed to mimic the process of photosynthesis in plants, which naturally removes carbon dioxide from the air and converts it into oxygen.

"The Mechanical Tree" consists of a tall tower equipped with filters that trap carbon dioxide as air is drawn through. The carbon dioxide is then stored in tanks or converted into a solid or liquid form for transportation and disposal. Some designs also incorporate renewable energy sources, such as wind or solar power, to power the system.

This technology offers a promising solution to the challenge of reducing carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere and mitigating the effects of climate change. By actively removing carbon dioxide from the air, mechanical trees can help reduce the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and lower the overall concentration of these harmful pollutants.

In addition, extracted carbon dioxide can also be used in various industrial processes, such as enhancing oil recovery or producing carbon-neutral fuels. This makes mechanical trees a potentially valuable tool for not only reducing greenhouse gas emissions but also for supporting the development of a low-carbon economy.

Moreover, the system is intended for owners of factories that emit large amounts of carbon dioxide annually. The carbon dioxide extracted from the mechanical tree must be used to increase annual income and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The team consists of 3 Engineering students majoring in mechatronics: Mustafa Khaled, Mohamed Radwan, and Youssef Bakr, October University for Modern Sciences and Arts -MSA, under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr/ Ghada Abdel Hadi - a member of the Scientific Excellence Center at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts- MSA, which is keen to establish various specialized projects, as the Faculty of Management Sciences, with the participation of the student Sarah Hafez, contributed with doing the marketing plan for the project.
